Success for James Mountain at Four’s Head in OUBC crew

James Mountain, who is trialling for the blue boat again this year, competed in the 2nd OUBC Coxed 4 at the Four’s Head of the River on November 30th. His crew, which included Sam O’Connor from last year’s blue boat, came 4th in the Elite Coxed Four category and 32nd overall, and finished only 12 seconds behind a Leander coxed 4 containing World Champions from the GB Eight and Olympic medallists Tom Ransley, Peter Reed, Will Satch and Dan Ritchie.

The top Oxford men’s boat, of double Canadian Olympic medallist Malcolm Howard, GB Olympic medallist Constantine Louloudis, three time returning Blue Karl Hudspith, and US international Michael di Santo, and cox Laurence Harvey, won the Elite Coxed Four category by 30 seconds, over the top Cambridge boat in 2nd place. However, the Cambridge squad showed greater strength and depth, with Cambridge II winning IM1 Coxless Fours, and Cambridge III winning IM1 Coxed Fours.

James will compete in the Oxford trial 8s race, which had to be postponed from 18th December due to injury and illness, at 2:30pm on 19th January. We wish him the best of luck!
