On April 6th, James competed in the 50th Isis vs Goldie race over the Boat Race course on the Thames. Isis lead from the very first stroke and continued to extend their lead over the whole of the course, winning by a record margin of 13 lengths (37 seconds) in a time of 18 minutes 39 seconds. The full race report is here.
A large group of James’ friends and boat club alumni gathered at The Dove and Furnivall Gardens to cheer him on and were delighted to see him win so convincingly. Oxford were also dominant in the blue boat race, winning by 11 lengths after a slight clash caused the Cambridge two-man to lose his blade for a couple of strokes (race report here). This completed a near clean-sweep for Oxford in this year’s varsity boat races, in which they only lost the Men’s Lightweight race.
