Nephthys Regatta gave our novices their first taste of side-by-side racing. On a cold Michaelmas day LMH M2 comprehensively beat Exeter by over 5 lengths. The men then had a tough race against a strong crew from St Anne’s but unfortunately lost by a length. W2 had a much harder first race against a Lincoln crew. Our women fought hard but were beaten bringing a premature end to their first regatta.
After the disappointment of Nephthys Regatta both novice crews trained hard over the next week for Christ Church Regatta. M2 were drawn against Hertford A and lost by a length, however, they fared much better in the repechage beating both Magdalen A and Wadham. In the end a strong Jesus crew, who were themselves only beaten by eventual champions Christ Church, stopped LMH. W2 also secured their first win in Christ Church Regatta by beating Magdalen B by a number of lengths. Sadly they were knocked out by Univ A on Friday.
Even in defeat there were many positives to be taken from both regattas. Nephthys was a great opportunity to get out some first-race nerves and in the Christ Church both boats did well to progress to the Friday.
