Torpids day 2

LMH overal result = +5

W2 kicked things off on a day of lovely sunshine with a bump on Exeter 2 by a complete row past, this was the start of a great day of racing for LMH. With one bump under the belt, and with some experience of bumps racing, W2 will look to continue their run of good results chasing St Hilda’s 2

M2 followed that up with a very swift bump on St Hugh’s M3. Keen to conserve energy for later in the week, M2 were all done and dusted by Donny Bridge to look good for the camera ( bump at 1.50). Wolfson 3 may provide a sterner test for the boys tomorrow, but there’s still plenty of speed to be seen from the crew who have not yet been seriously challenged in this campaign.

After a brief delay whilst OURCs seemed to invent an appeal that nobody else had any idea about, W1’s bump on Brasenose was confirmed, along with an extra place gained from the chain bump Brasenose got on St Catz. Tomorrow they line up behind Worcester looking to climb back further into division 2.

M1 entered the gut a canvas ahead of Keble, and a canvas down on St Anne’s, and somehow neither bump took place. St Anne’s bumped out on Worcester, forcing M1 to cross early to escape the carnage at the exit of the gut. Along greenbank they stepped away from Keble and got the bump on Worcester just before the boathouse stretch. Tomorrow will see them lining up in the same scenario but one bungline further up, with St Anne’s to chase, and Keble behind.

It’s been a while since all LMH crews bumped on a single day (longer than the 4 years this writer has been at LMH), and all of our crews start tomorrow with a strong chance of another bump, form over the past few days would certainly suggest it will be another day of steady progress up the bumps chart for LMH. The weather forecast might not be quite so promising, but the results are sure to make up for it and we warmly invite all friends and wellwishers of the boat club to come down and give us a cheer.

W2 – 12.30

M2 – 1.00

W1 – 3.30

M1 – 4.00

Torpids day 1 round up

Overall result = +2

W2 kicked off the day with a strong start, but unfortunately their division was klaxoned within the first minute as W2 had already closed up to half a length on Merton W2. They’ll go again tomorrow chasing Merton again, and hopefully have a long enough race to get the bump they deserved today.

M2 continued their strong upward trend of recent bumps racing. Exeter 2 held them off until the boathouses, but eventually M2 closed in for their bump. Tomorrow they chase a St Hugh’s M2 who are already down 5 for the week….

W1 gave us a real fright at the top of div 3,  to say Mansfield had overlap doesn’t do it justice. This video shows how scarily close they got, but the girls found something from somewhere and did enough to hold them off. Their race at the bottom of div 2 was a much less stressful experience for this spectator, as they overbumped on St Hugh’s before even coming into view along green banks. Their place in divison 2 now confirmed, they’ll be chasing Brasenose tomorrow who they closed on today before both crews bumped out on Hugh’s.

M1 had a frustrating day, not able to replicate some of the rowing we’ve been doing in training, Merton closed up very quickly, and Mansfield bumped out on St Anne’s ahead. Coming out of the gut, we found a bit more rhythm and began to pull away from Merton on every stroke. Although we closed up to within 1/4 of a length on St Anne’s, we were not able to overbump this time. Tomorrow we’ll look to clean it up a bit and get the bump on St Anne’s we were so close to today.

LMHBC are going to London

Last year marked the first time in many years that M1 had raced at HoRR. It has been a while since we raced WEHoRR, and even longer still since we did both in the same year! M1 and W1 are excitedly looking forwards to racing on the tideway on March 11th for the women and March 25th for the men. If you’re in London on one of those days, come down to the river and give us a cheer!

Henley Gathering

We are looking forward to seeing as many friends and alumni as possible on Saturday 2nd July at our gathering at Henley Royal Regatta.

LMHBC will be running a joint event with Pembroke College Boat Club during the afternoon tea break. The exact location will be confirmed on the LMH website and via twitter on the day.

Do join us for a glass of Pimms and a chat!

If you would like to come, please message, so that we know how much Pimms to bring. Alternatively, please call Vicky on 07551 952642.

LMHBC does an erg marathon

LMHBC is on a mission to buy new rowing machines!

As a double blades winning boat club with over fifty members, we are looking to double the number of rowing machines in our fleet from just 4 to 8. This will allow for each of our crews to train together as a full boat, and drastically improve our capacity to train for Oxford bumps races and external regattas.

In order to raise funds for our new equipment, members of LMHBC will be taking part in a sponsored erg marathon from 7am on Thursday 9th of June to 7am on Friday 10th of June, with 2 rowing machines constantly on the go for 24 whole hours. We’re aiming to row 640km between us – that’s twice the length of the River Thames.

Please support our marathon effort by sponsoring us and helping us to achieve our fundraising target. Our justgiving page can be found here:

Unfortunately we cannot claim gift aid on donations via justgiving. However, if you would like to make a donation that can be gift aided, please visit, and designate your gift to the boat club, quoting ‘erg marathon’ in the comments section.

Thank you for your support!
